I, like other viewers in movie theatres, was completely amazed the first time I watched the film «The Purge.» A powerful narrative drive defined it: a new form of horror expression, a fresh set of terrors for the new millennium, and an incredible plot twist that changed the history of the home-invasion subgenre. Others, of course, focused on poor acting and strange scripts. Today, I do not wish to dwell on the film’s aesthetic value.

Globally, the frequency and intensity of heatwaves are rising, with temperatures across many areas –from Europe to Asia– hitting new highs. Pakistan is one of the countries setting new heat records almost every year. While the nation already faces numerous challenges, the extreme heat is severely worsening them. This year’s heatwave is particularly dangerous due to severe water shortages and electricity outages in many parts of the country. Indeed, in many cities within Sindh, access to clean water and a reliable supply of electricity is becoming increasingly difficult to find. In some places, temperatures have soared to 52°C, making the lack of utilities even more perilous.
